Wi-Fi, IPTV, PMS, VoIP and CCTV all get the attention because they're what guests and staff notice. The structured cabling underneath gets noticed only when it's wrong — a run that fails intermittently under load, a comms room nobody can make sense of, containment that was never sized for what the building actually needed. Getting the physical layer right the first time is the cheapest point in a hotel's lifecycle to do it.
What usually gets skipped
Containment sized for today, not for the building's actual lifespan.
The most common cost we see hotels absorb later isn't a bad cable run — it's containment sized for the day it was installed rather than for what the building will actually carry over the next ten to fifteen years. A comms room and riser sized exactly for the opening-day device count leaves no room for the access points, cameras and PMS terminals that inevitably get added once the property is trading and someone wants to improve Wi-Fi coverage in a dead spot. At that point, adding capacity means reopening finished ceilings and walls in a live, occupied building — vastly more disruptive and expensive than allowing 20-30% headroom in containment during first fix.
We size containment and comms rooms for the building's realistic lifespan, not the initial spec sheet, and we say so directly when a design brief under-provisions for it — even if that means a slightly higher first-fix cost than a competing quote. It's the same principle behind choosing Cat6a over Cat6 as standard: the incremental cost at install is small next to the cost of redoing it once the building is full of guests.

Cat6a horizontal cabling
Every access point, PMS terminal, IPTV set-top box, VoIP handset and camera needs a certified run back to the comms room. We install Cat6a as standard — enough headroom for Wi-Fi 6E/7 access points and PoE++ devices without a mid-life recable.
Fibre backbone
Riser and campus fibre linking comms rooms floor to floor or building to building — single-mode for long runs and multimode within a building, sized for redundancy rather than just meeting today's bandwidth.
Comms room design & fit-out
Rack layout, patch panel organisation, cable management, power distribution and cooling — designed so the next engineer who opens the rack can understand it in minutes, not hours.
First fix & second fix
Containment, back boxes and first-fix cable runs during construction; faceplates, patching and second-fix termination once the building is ready — sequenced around the wider construction and fit-out programme.

Cabling installation — questions we get asked
Cat6a supports 10 Gigabit speeds over the full 100-metre run and handles the higher power draw of modern PoE++ devices — access points, cameras, door locks — without the derating issues Cat6 runs into under bundled, high-density installs. Wi-Fi 6E and 7 access points in particular are starting to need more power and bandwidth than Cat6 was ever specified for. The incremental material cost over Cat6 is small — typically a modest percentage of the overall cabling budget — compared to the cost and disruption of recabling a live, trading hotel five years later because the original spec has run out of headroom.
Yes — this is most of our cabling work in practice, not the exception. Runs are phased floor-by-floor, coordinated directly with your operations and housekeeping teams so guest rooms aren't out of action longer than necessary, and scheduled out-of-hours where a property needs zero guest-facing disruption during the day. We plan the sequencing around your occupancy calendar, not the other way round, which matters more in hospitality than almost any other sector we work in.
Tested and certified, on every run, as standard — not an optional extra. We test against TIA/ISO performance standards using BICSI-aligned methodology and hand over full test documentation as part of project close-out, so you have evidence of what was actually delivered, not just a verbal assurance. This matters particularly for new-build projects, where the cabling contractor and the rest of the build team are rarely the same people who'll be troubleshooting a problem two years later — the test results are what lets a future engineer know where to start looking.

Cabling is the physical layer everything else runs on. It's typically delivered alongside — or as the first phase of — our wider hotel IT infrastructure, Wi-Fi and new-build IT projects.
Because it's the one part of a cabling installation that's genuinely difficult and expensive to change once a building is finished and trading. A comms room or riser sized exactly for opening-day device counts leaves no room for the access points, cameras or PMS terminals that inevitably get added later — and adding capacity at that point means reopening finished ceilings and walls in a live, occupied hotel. We build in realistic headroom at first fix specifically to avoid that.
Both, depending on the project — but we'll flag it directly if a design brief under-provisions for the building's realistic lifespan, even on projects where someone else has already produced the spec.
